Plastic Spoon Bat Crafts

This bat crafts idea is perfect for Halloween decorations. You can make several of these plastic spoon bats and hang them around the house. You can hang some upside down and others right side up to give it a different look.

This kids craft idea does take some cutting and a hot glue so may not be the right craft idea for toddlers or younger. But the older kids will love how their bats turn out and will want to show them off (and scare) their friends.

Supplies

1 Black plastic spoon (per bat)
Black and red paper
Small wiggle eyes
Black pom pom
Scissors
Hot Glue

How to Make a Plastic Spoon Bat Craft

Step 1

Using heavy duty scissors, cut off the handle of the plastic spoon. Keep the bowl portion of the spoon. This will be the bat's body.

Tip: If you can't find black spoons use a dark color or even white.

Step 2

With the red paper, cut out two wings where the width of the wing is slightly smaller than the length of the spoon. You can use this template here or draw your own wings.

Step 3

Cut out two black wings with the same shape making this slightly smaller than the red wings. Glue the black and red wings together with the black on top.

Step 4

Using the hot glue gun, glue on a black pom pom on the top of the spoon where you cut the handle off. The bowl of the spoon will be the back and the curved out portion will be the front of the bat.

Step 5

With the hot glue attach both wings and place them slightly under the pom pom.

Step 6

Finish your bat by gluing on some wiggle eyes and fangs. Glue on some string to the back of the spoon and hang these.

Tip: If you glue the string near the top (by the head) your bat will hang right side up. If you glue it near the bottom of the bat your bat will hang upside down.

These bats make a fun and scary Halloween decoration. You can use clear plastic string (like the kind you use for beading jewelery) and then they will look like they are really flying.
