Christmas
Gift Idea for Kids #1
Snow
Globes
This kids craft project will require adult supervision as you will need
a hot glue gun. This gift idea is a bit more difficult to make but the
results are just adorable.
Supplies
Baby food jar (cleaned)
Baby Oil
Glitter
Hot Glue gun and glue stick
Small Christmas ornament (optional)
Small Platform (optional)
How
to make a Snow Globe
 |
First
decide if you want to have a small ornament inside your snow globe.
If so, pick one out that will fit inside the jar.
|
 |
If
you want, you can create a platform so that the ornament is raised up a
bit. I used the small tin container that tea lights come in.
This is small enough to fit in the jar and raises the
ornament just enough to see it better when the globe is completed.
Hot glue the platform to the lid of the jar. If you do not
want a platform, simply hot glue the ornament to the lid of the jar.
|
 |
Fill
the baby food jar 3/4 of the way with baby oil. I find baby
oil works best as the glitter will float more softly.
However, you can use distilled water.
Tip: If using distilled water, you can add a bit of corn
syrup to help slow down the falling of the glitter. But this
is a bit more cloudy than baby oil.
|
 |
Now
put some glitter in the jar with the baby oil. You can use
multiple colors or stick to one color scheme.
|
 |
Using
your hot glue gun again, fill the inside of the lid around the edge
being careful not to knock over your ornament. Place the lid
on tightly to the jar and gently shake up your snow globe and watch the
snow fall.
|
This Christmas gift idea is our favorite. We always have
someone on our list that loves snow globes and each one is unique and
beautiful. Your snow globes do not have to be a Christmas
theme but can be any theme you can think of. Perhaps your
Uncle is a big football fan, then you can find a miniature football to
glue inside your glove and then use the colors of his favorite team for
the glitter.

Christmas
Gift Idea for Kids #2
Book Marks
Almost everyone on your list could use a book mark to keep their place
in their favorite book they are reading. These book markers
can be easy using simple card stock and stickers or add a little
difficulty and use yarn and beads to make a book mark.
Supplies
Yarn
Card Stock
Beads
Scissors
Scotch Tape (optional)
Marker (optional)
The directions below are for the wooden bead book mark. To
make a simple book mark using card stock, you would simply cut out a
book mark shape, decorate it and if you like, punch a hole at the top
and tie some ribbon into a bow. You can even write the
person's name on the book mark so they always know which one is theirs.
How
to make a Wooden Bead Book Mark
 |
Take
a piece of yarn (about 1 1/2 times longer than a book), and tie at one
end about 3 1/2 inches from the bottom of the yarn.
Tip: If you want more beads, then tie the knot a bit higher.
|
 |
String
three wooden beads up to the tied knot. If you want, you can
paint these beads before you thread them or buy large colored beads.
|
 |
Now
tie a knot just after the last bead to hold them in place.
|
 |
Do
the same on the other end of the string, tying a knot about 3 1/2
inches from the bottom and threading 3 wooden beads.
Tip: Before you tie any knots on this end, double check the
length of the book mark to a book. When this book mark is
placed in a book, both beaded ends should be outside the book.
If you need to make it shorter or longer, simply tie the knot
accordingly.
|
 |
Make
a knot after the last bead in on the yarn and you are done.
|
As a variation to these Christmas gift ideas, you can macrame the yarn
and then place beads at the bottom and string the top through a cut out
card stock with the person's name on it.
Another idea for book marks is to use two popsicle sticks and glue some
sturdy ribbon on the end of each. You can decorate the sticks
as you want. This type of book mark is meant to go between
pages, with one stick on the page that needs to be marked and the other
stick on a page somewhere behind this. The ribbon is what
holds the two sticks together and won't fall out of the book.

Christmas
Gift Idea for Kids #3
Coasters
If your house is like mine, then you probably have some old CD's laying
around that are all scratched up and pretty much useless.
Well now there is something these can be used for.
This gift idea for kids to make can be given to just about
anyone. After all, we all can use some coasters around the
house for our drinks.
Supplies
Old CDs (preferably 4 to make a
complete set)
Felt
Glue
How
to make a CD Coaster
|
|
 |
Take
the felt and cut it out slightly bigger than the CD.
|
 |
Pour
a generous amount of glue all over the CD making sure to get the edges.
Place the cut out felt on top of the glue.
|
 |
When
the glue is dry, simply cut off the excess felt.
|
 |
Now
repeat this on the other side of the CD.
|
 |
Optional:
If you want to add a design to your coasters, simply pick out
your design and cut out a piece of felt in the color of your choice.
Glue this piece on top of the other felt piece.
|
|
A good Christmas gift idea for this kids craft project is to use colors
of a favorite sports team or match colors to the person's house.
Another cute idea for this gift is to print out a picture of
your child (the same size as the coaster) and glue the picture to the
CD (using picture safe glue). Then simply place a piece of
clear contact paper over the picture.
Now that you have some Christmas gift ideas, you need some Christmas
wrapping ideas so you can wrap your handmade gift.
