crafting and spend some time as a family

Each paper Christmas craft idea lists the supplies you will need,
step by step instructions and a picture of the final Christmas crafts

All of these kids craft ideas can be made from

Christmas Paper Crafts for Kids
Standing Paper Tree
or Star
These Christmas paper crafts are easy but will require some
adult supervision on the cutting. They make great table
decorations that you can put throughout the house.
Supplies
Green Construction Paper (tree)
Colored Construction Paper (2 colors for the star)
Markers or Crayons
Scissors
Pencil (for making pattern)
Clear Scotch Tape
Pony Beads or Glitter (optional)
Colored Ribbon (optional)
These paper crafts for Christmas are fun but may not last from year to
year. That's okay as you can make new ones each year for more
Christmas crafting fun. But if you want these kids crafts to
last try using craft foam instead. It's more expensive but
will last
longer. I have made these crafts with both paper and foam.
I like to use paper so we can make them each year but I used
foam for lasting Christmas decorations.
How
to make Standing Christmas Tree Craft
 |
Using
the green construction paper, fold in half and then fold in half again.
Trace out half a Christmas tree along the fold and cut.
Tip: You can fold the paper in half only once and trace an
entire Christmas tree if you want. The reason to trace and
cut with the paper folded is to ensure both trees are the same shape
and size.
|
 |
Now
have the kids add decoration to each side of the two trees.
They can use crayons, markers, paints or anything you can
think of. If you want to get really fancy you can glue on
cotton balls (to make it look like snow) or beads for ornaments.
You can glue this stuff on now or after you put the trees
together.
Tip: Don't glue something in the middle of the tree as you
will be cutting slits in both trees down the middle. Also, if
you want your tree to have garland, it's easier to wait until after you
have put the two pieces together to glue on ribbon or string for
garland.
|
 |
Once
the trees are decorated and the glue and/or paint is completely dry,
it's time to put them together to make a 3 dimensional standing tree.
Cut a slit from the bottom up half way on one of the trees
directly down the middle.
Now cut a slit in the other tree, again half way down, starting from
the top of the tree directly in the middle.
|
 |
Now
simply slide the two trees together using the slits to fit together.
To help hold the trees together, use clear tape and tape
towards the top of the tree.
Tip: You may have to do a bit of trimming at the bottom to
get the tree to stand correctly.
|
 |
Add
some finishing touches to your tree. You can make a star out
of construction paper and cut a slit in the bottom. Slide
this on the top of your tree. You can also add some garland
by simply gluing on some colored string or ribbon.
|
That's it, you have made a standing Christmas tree using this Christmas
kids
craft idea. You can create big ones using a whole sheet of
paper for each tree or smaller ones by using only half or 1/4 of the
paper.
To
make a Christmas paper craft standing star, simply cut out two stars
and cut a slit at the
bottom of one and the top of the other (same as you did for the tree).
Slide the two stars together and your done. I like
to use two different colors when making the star but you can use one
color if you like.

Christmas Paper Crafts for Kids
Brown Paper Bag
Christmas Stocking
This Christmas paper craft is great for the little ones as
they can decorate their
stocking however they want. You can have them use crayons,
markers, paints or whatever. This is a really inexpensive
Christmas paper craft idea for kids.
Supplies
Brown Lunch Bag
Scissors
Crayons, markers or paint
Ribbon or String
Glue
How to make a
paper bag Christmas stocking
 |
Take
your paper bag and cut off the bottom. You won't need this
part. Now draw a stocking on the paper bag and cut it out.
You will have two stockings.
|
 |
Decorate
the stocking. If you plan to hang this on your tree as an
ornament, decorate both pieces. Remember you will glue to the
two pieces together, back to back, so be sure to decorate the side that
will be showing.
Tip: You can decorate after you put the stocking together.
It doesn't matter if you do this first or after gluing
together.
|
 |
Glue
to two stocking together at the sides only. Do not glue the
top as you want to leave this open.
|
 |
Once
the glue drys, punch some holes around the edges of the stocking.
A hole punch works best but you can use a pencil or scissors
to poke a hole.
|
 |
Thread
some colored string or ribbon around the stocking through the holes.
Tie the two ends of the string together. You can
use this to hang the stocking on the tree, the wall or over the
fireplace.
|
As an added touch, you can stuff some paper towels, newspaper or cotton
balls in the bag to give a "filled up" look. You may need
something to
help poke down the stuffing as the opening may be a bit small for
bigger hands.
Another paper bag Christmas craft is to make a reindeer puppet.
You can see how to make the reindeer puppet and other
Christmas kids craft ideas here.

#3 Christmas Paper Crafts for
Kids
Paper Plate Hand Wreath or
Poinsettia
|
|
Paper plate Christmas
crafts are a great way to keep the kids busy and
their
imagination going. This Christmas paper craft idea for kids is easy,
inexpensive
and adds a special touch as it uses their handprints to make the leaves.
Supplies
1
Paper Plate
Green and Red Construction Paper
Yellow Construction Paper or Yellow Marker
Glue
Scissors
Yellow Marker or Crayon |
How to make a
paper plate poinsettia
 |
Taking
the green construction paper, trace and cut several hand prints.
You need enough to go around the outside of the plate.
|
 |
Using
the red construction paper, trace and cut several hand prints.
These will go around the inside of the plate. You
will do two layers of red on the inside of the plate.
|
 |
Now
arrange your hand prints on the plate (green on the outside and two
layers of red on the inside). Leave a circle in the middle of
the plate uncovered. Glue the hands to the plate.
|
 |
To
make the center of your poinsettia, color the inside circle yellow or
cut a yellow circle out of construction and glue in the center.
|
You can use these same instructions to make a paper plate hand wreath.
Just use different colors of construction paper to represent
the different colors of leaves. I like to find a favorite
picture of my family and glue this in the center of the wreath.
Think of other ways to turn a paper plate into a great
Christmas
kids craft idea.

#4 Christmas Paper Crafts for
Kids
Paper
Snowflake Garland
This Christmas paper craft idea for kids is really fun and each
snowflake has
it's own special design.
This one is a great craft for those
kids who like to cut with scissors. The folding is a bit
tricky at first but you will get the hang of it. |
|
Supplies
White Construction Paper (or you
can used any color)
Scissors
Ribbon or String
How to make a
paper snowflake garland
 |
To
make a snowflake you first need to learn how to fold the paper before
you start cutting. For smaller snowflakes, I like to use only
1/4 of the construction paper. If you want bigger snowflakes,
say to hang on the door or walls, then use 1/2 or a full sheet of paper.
|
 |
To
fold the paper, fold in half along the longer end of the paper.
|
|
Now
crease the paper down the middle (but don't fold, just create the
crease for folding later).
|
 |
From
this center crease, fold one side over to the middle crease
forming a triangle. Now fold over the other side again
towards the
middle crease. When folded, this will hang over the bottom of
the
paper. Don't worry as we will cut this off.
|
 |
Now
fold along the crease. You should end up with a traingle
shape. Cut off the excess off the bottom.
For more detailed instructions on folding, click here.
|
 |
Now
it's time to do some cutting. There is no specific pattern
that you need, just make some small cuts here and bigger cuts there.
Make some that are small triangle shapes and others that are
wavy or circles. This is the best part of snowflakes,
figuring out what to cut where to make your snowflake beautiful and
unique.
|
 |
Now
take your colored string or ribbon and weave it through each snowflake.
Use the smallest hole that will still let the snowflake hang correctly.
Simply string on as many snowflakes as you want to make a big
or small garland.
Tip: You can use a hole punch to create a smaller hole if
needed. I like to tie a knot behind each snowflake with the
string or ribbon so the snowflakes stay in place and don't bunch up
together.
|
The best thing about this Christmas paper craft idea for kids is that
each snowflake
comes out looking slightly different than the other. I like
to use white and softer colors to create all kinds of different colored
snowflakes. I always make big ones too so I can hang these on
the window or door. This way everyone can see these Christmas
crafts from outside the house as well.
