Christmas Crafts
This Christmas tree advent calendar craft for kids is so neat and really fun
for kids to make and count down the days until Christmas. This is a
standing tree so you can set it on a table in your house or make it the
center of attention in a classroom.
The cutting of the flaps is a bit tricky so should be done by older
kids, teachers or parents. The decorating of the tree and flipping open
the flaps each day is for kids of all ages.
So grab some green paper, colorful markers or glitter glue, fun
Christmas stickers and let's make this fun Xmas tree advent calendar.
 Supplies
3 12 X 12 Green Card Stock
Markers or Glitter Glue
Christmas Stickers
Tape or Glue
Scissors
Craft Knife (Exacto Knife)
How to
Make a Christmas Tree Advent Calendar
| Step 1 |
Cut a large arch
shape with the 3 pieces of card stock. Make sure they are the same size.
Tip: Put all three pieces together, trace the arch and then cut.
|
| Step 2 |
On one of the
arches, draw on 24 half circle shapes. This is where you will cut with
the exacto knife to create the lift up tabs. Don't worry about the
markings showing as you will using the other side as the outside of the
tree.
|
| Step 3 |
Cut each half
circle with the craft knife or exacto knife. This step is for adults
only or older kids with adult supervision. Cut only the circle shape
and not the flat line (if you traced it this way). Leave the flat edge
attached to create the tab.
Tip: If doing this Christmas tree advent calendar as a classroom project teachers should do all the
steps from 1 - 3 and then when the kids are there, start the classroom
craft project with step 4.
|
| Step 4 |
Lay one of the
large arches on the table. Then place the piece with the cuts on top of
this. Number each tab starting from 1 to 24. We started our numbers at
the bottom but any design will do.
Tip: Use a dark Christmas color so you can see the numbers. We used a
red marker.
|
| Step 5 |
Slightly lift
each tab and place a Christmas sticker underneath. You
can also just have the kids draw some ornaments underneath each tab. |
| Step 6 |
Using tape
(double stick tape works best) tape both pieces together. |
| Step 7 |
Now decorate the
front of this piece (the one with the tabs) using
glitter glue or markers. You can create a garland and more ornaments if
you want. |
| Step 8 |
Now curl this
into a cone shape and tape at the edges. Take the last
large arch and curl this into a cone shape also and tape together.
Tip:
Make sure you don't cover up any of your lift up tabs when you make the
cone shape. If needed, leave the top open a bit and you can always
place an ornament or star on top to cover up the opening. |
| Step 9 |
Slide the
decorated cone on top of the undecorated cone making sure
that the larger part of the bottoms are facing away from each other.
This is what makes the tree stand up.
|
To count down the days to Christmas with this Christmas tree advent calendar, have
your child lift the numbered tab and bend back to reveal the Christmas
sticker underneath. Do this each day until you have reached December
24th. If you want, on Christmas day you can add a star to the top of
the tree to complete - or add the star at the beginning and end the
count down at number 24.
