How to Make a Jack in the Box
Craft Stick Christmas Ornament
 |
Take
four craft sticks and glue together to form a box shape. For
the really little kids, I find it easiest to place the glue where it's
needed and them let them put the stick on top of the glue.
Press down to make sure the glue covers enough to stick. Set
aside to dry.
|
 |
Using
a pipe cleaner, thread an oval wooden bead down to about the middle of
the pipe cleaner. Simply bend the pipe cleaner back a bit to
hold the bead in place.
|
 |
Now thread the round wooden bead on for
Jack's head.
|
 |
Using the craft foam, construction paper or
felt, cut out a 1 1/2" diameter circle. Fold the circle at
the top end to end forming a cone shape leaving an opening at the top
to thread onto the pipe cleaner.
Tip: If you use craft foam or felt, this will need a glue gun
to hold in place. For younger children, let the adults handle the glue
gun. All other kids should be supervised for this step.
|
 |
One the glue on the cone hat is dry, thread
this onto the pipe cleaner on top of the round wooden bead.
Bend back the remaining portion of the pipe cleaner for
hanging on the Christmas tree.
|
 |
Now take your box craft stick (make sure
glue is dry) and glue on remaing craft stick to form the lid of the box
as if it were opened. Like when Jack comes out of the box.
Once again set aside to let the glue dry.
|
 |
Cut a square piece of colored paper
slightly bigger than your box. Glue this to the back of the
box and cut off excess paper. You can use an exacto knife,
but again adults only for this tool. Place some colorful
stickers on the paper to decorate the box.
Tip: We used gold wrapping paper to give it a bit more
sparkle and shine. |
 |
For the last step, take the pipe cleaner
(bottom half) and wrap this through the paper and craft stick to hold
in place. Leave a bit of the pipe cleaner sticking up to make
it look like the springs on the Jack in the Box toy.
|
That's it for this Christmas ornament kids craft. This one
was our favorite as it is just adorable and a bit of a break from the
traditional stars and snowflakes.

Stick Christmas Ornament

Take
two of the regular sized craft sticks and glue into a V shape.
|
 |
Take
the remaining regular sized craft stick and glue this across the V (at
the larger end) leaving about 1/2" to 3/4" inches at the top for horns.
|
 |
For additional horns, glue the two small
craft sticks at an angle out from the V shape. Glue this
behind the V shape for a smoother look to the horns.
Tip: If you only have regular sized craft sticks, simply cut
one in half and glue the straight edge (leaving the rounded edge to be
seen).
|
 |
For some cute character to this reindeer,
glue a couple of wiggle eyes just below the forehead (the stick that is
glued across the V). Now glue a colored pom pom (red, brown
or black) at the end of the V to make the reindeer's nose.
Tip: If you don't have wiggle eyes or a pom pom, simply have
the kids draw this on with a marker. They still look cute
hanging on the Christmas tree.
|
 |
Take some ribbon and make a loop and glue
the two ends to the back of the craft sticks for hanging on your tree.
|

You can alter this craft stick Christmas ornament by using one big
craft stick for the body of the reindeer. Then glue on some
smaller craft sticks to form the horns. Then just add some
eyes and nose and ribbon for hanging on the tree. If you want
the kids to have even more fun with this kids craft idea, let them
color the sticks making the body brown and the horns with some brown
glitter glue.

Craft Stick Christmas Ornaments #3
Snowflake
This one is really easy but does require some drying time for the glue.
These really add sparkle to the tree if you touch it up with
some glitter glue.
Supplies
4
craft sticks
Wood glue
Glitter Glue (optional)
Ribbon
The snowflake pictured here was made with slotted craft sticks (or
hobby sticks). You can find these at just about any craft store or even
on a craft supply site online.
How to Make a Snowflake
|
|
 |
Take
two craft sticks and glue one on top of the other in the middle with
the sticks spread out about 1/4 to 1/2 inch apart.
Tip: Before gluing, do a practice run and put all the sticks
together (one on top of the other) to form the eight points of a
snowflake. This will give you an idea of how far apart each
stick needs to be glued.
|
 |
Glue
the remaining sticks on top one by one until all the sticks are glued
together.
Tip: I find that if you glue one right after the other you
still have a chance to move them if you need to even out the points.
|
 |
Let the glue completely dry before
decorating your snowflake with glitter glue.
Tip: If you want, you can have the kids add the glitter glue
first, then let it dry before putting together your snowflake.
|
 |
Now loop a ribbon and glue the two ends to
the back of the star for hanging on your tree.
|
This Christmas ornaments kids craft is easy but yet adds a nice touch
to your tree. Your kids can make several of these and use different
glitter glue to add some color. If you don't have glitter glue, you can
paint these different colors or just use white to represent the snow
falling down your tree. |

Green glitter glue or paint
Pony beads (optional)
How to Make a Christmas Tree
Ornament
 |
Take
three regular sized craft sticks and glue into a triangle.
Let the glue dry before moving to the next step.
|
 |
On
the back of the triangle, glue craft sticks across the triangle,
cutting the sticks to size as needed.
|
 |
Glue a small craft stick at the bottom of
the triangle on the back and facing straight down. This is
the tree's trunk. Set tree aside and let the glue dry
competely.
|
 |
Taking 3 small craft sticks, glue together,
one on top of the other in the middle, to form a star. You
will need to gauge how much to spread apart to make it look even.
Do a practice run before gluing if you need to.
|
 |
Let the glue on the tree dry and then add
some green paint or glitter glue to your tree. As an option
you can glue on pony beads for ornaments.
Tip: These pony beads tend to fall off when packed away after
Christmas unless you use a glue gun. We just used Elmer's
glue and re-glue beads when needed. |
This craft stick Christmas
ornament takes a bit more time
and is a bit bigger than some of the others. But that's okay
as
it will stand out so people can admire it.
