| Egg Crafts
for Kids Page 1
These
Easter egg crafts use several different types of craft supplies.
There is a paper mache craft, craft sticks, self drying clay
and more.
Although some of these kids crafts are a bit more
difficult (and therefore geared towards older children) the little ones
can still get in on the fun when it comes to decorating and painting
these crafts.
So
add some egg decorating fun this Easter and make your own paper or clay
egg and paint it with your favorite colors. Your kids will be
glad to display these coloful Easter crafts made by them. |

Easter Egg Craft #1
Refrigerator
Easter Magnets
These cute little egg magnets can hold your precious papers and
pictures or just deocrate your fridge for Easter.
Supplies
Self Drying Molding Clay (see
note below)
Jello Mold or Deviled Egg Tray
Pretrolium Jelly
Paints
Paint Brush
Hot Glue or Contact Cement
Clear Coat
Exacto Knife
Tip:
You can make your own self drying clay. What you
need is 4
cups flour, 1 1/2 cups salt and 1 1/2 cups water. Mix
together
and store in an air tight container and refrigerate until ready to use.
Simply allow clay to come to room temperature and then make
your
craft.
How to Make Easter Fridge Magnets
 |
Coat
your mold with a generous amount of petrolium jelly. This
will make removing the clay much easier.
|
 |
Work
the clay until it is soft and easy to work with.
|
 |
Push the clay into the mold.
Remove excess clay from the sides.
Tip: You don't need to worry about removing all excess clay.
The excess can easily be removed once the clay is dry.
|
 |
Allow the clay to dry (at least overnight).
Remove the clay from the mold.
Tip:
You may have to allow more drying time as the top of the clay
(the part that was face down in the mold) may still be a bit wet.
|
 |
This step for adults only. Using
an exacto knife, scrape off
the excess clay from the sides of your item. Also smooth out
the
back side to make it as flat as possible.
|
 |
Place a magnet on the back with hot glue or
contact cement.
Make sure the magnet is large enough to hold up your Easter
egg
on your fridge.
|
Now you can hang your favorite Easter picture with your own Easter egg
fridge magnet.

Easter Egg Crafts #2
Craft
Stick Egg Wreath
This Easter egg craft takes some drying time and some patience but will
look great
hanging in your door or on the wall.
Supplies
12
to 20 Craft Sticks
Easter Candy
Colored Ribbon
Hot Glue
Scissors
Ribbon
Elmer's
Glue or Wood Glue
Paint
How to Make an Egg Wreath
 |
Before
starting, determine if
you want to use a group of 3 or 5 craft sticks for each section of the
wreath. Then paint each craft stick in the group a different
Easter
color. Paint both front and back.
|
 |
Once
the craft sticks are dry,
you will glue them together. Place the first colored stick
flat on the
table. Then place a bit of glue slightly below the tip of the
stick.
Place the next color on top but at an angle (see picture).
Repeat
this for the number of sticks in your group (3 or 5).
|
 |
Repeat this with each grouping until you
have a total of 4 groups
of glued craft sticks. Allow the glue to completely dry
before moving
onto the next step.
Tip: For a larger wreath, just make 2 or 4 more groups of
craft sticks.
|
 |
Glue each of the sections together to form
a wreath. Allow to dry completely.
|
 |
Now using the hot glue, place your candies
and ribbon onto the wreath. You can also cut out egg shapes using
colored craft foam.
|
 |
Hot glue a picture hanger or use ribbon for
hanging.
|
You can also purchase a wreath and
then simply decorate it with your Easter candies and shapes.

Easter Egg Craft #3
Yarn
Easter Egg
These Easter egg crafts were one of our favorites. It's a bit
hard for the smaller hands to hold onto the balloon while wrapping the
yarn, but if you do this project as a team, one person can hold while
the other winds the string around. These ess look really neat
when it's all done. You can hang
these or place them in a little holder to show them off.
Supplies
Multi Colored Yarn
Liquid Starch
Oval Balloon
Large Bowl
Scissors
Canning Lid Sealer
How to Make a Yarn Easter Egg
 |
Blow
up your balloon to the size you want. Shape the balloon as
best you can into an oval (egg) shape.
|
 |
Pour
a generous amount of liquid starch into the bowl (enough to completely
soak your yarn).
|
 |
Cut yarn into 1 to 2 yard sections.
|
 |
Dip yarn into liquid starch and ensure it
is completly saturated.
|
 |
Take the end of the yarn and begin wrapping
it around the balloon randomly.
Tip: Squeeze off excess liquid starch with your fingers as
you wrap it around.
|
 |
Repeat wrapping the yarn around the balloon
until it is covered at the desired amount you want.
Tip:
The yarn should cover enough of the balloon that there are no
large gaps but do not completely cover. This will give you a
neat
"open" design.
|
 |
Tie a piece of string to the top of the
balloon. Tie this to a coat hanger and allow to dry (approx.
6 to 8 hours).
|
 |
Once your egg is completly dry, pop the
balloon and remove.
Tip: Use tweezers if needed to get the balloon out.
|
 |
Decorate
your canning jar lid (the part that screws on the jar and is open in
the
middle). You can glue on colored ribbon or wrap it with some
colored yarn.
|
Just place your yarn egg in the center of the decorated lid
to display this beautiful Easter egg craft for kids. You can
even
add some potpourri inside your egg. Just snip the string at
the
bottom and fill the egg with the potpourri. Then simply hot
glue
the string back together to hold in the potpourri.

Easter Egg Crafts #4
Paper
Mache Egg Candy Dish
This Easter egg craft is really fun but will take several days for
drying time. This kids craft project is messy so be prepared
and
wear older clothes.
Supplies
Balloon
Flour
Water
Tissue Paper
Scissors
Clear Coat
How to Make an Egg Candy Dish
 |
Blow
up your balloon to the size you want and tie it off. Shape
the balloon as best you can into an oval (egg) shape.
|
 |
Mix
2 parts flour with 1 part water to make the paper mache paste.
It should have a glue like consistency.
|
 |
Tear up several pieces of tissue paper in
the colors of your choice.
Tip:
Tissue paper is very thin so you may want to do a first layer
with white printer paper. This will help strengthen the candy
dish and prevent you from having to do many layers of tissue paper.
|
 |
Dip the tissue paper in the paste removing
excess and place on the ballon.
Tip:
Because the tissue paper is so thin that it may tear a bit.
This is okay as it will give your egg a cool design.
|
 |
Let each layer dry completely and then
repeat for 4 or 5 more layers.
Tip:
Test the strength by squeezing the balloon after each layer
is
dry. You will be able to tell once it is strong enough.
|
 |
Using a needle or pin, pop your balloon.
|
 |
This
step is for adults. Cut the egg in half with an exacto knife.
Use a zig zag design if you want it to look like a broken egg.
|
 |
Spray with a clear coat and let dry.
|
You
can use both pieces to create one covered candy dish or use both pieces
for
2 open egg candy dishes. If you want a lid, simply hot glue
wooden bead or something to grab on to lift the lid. We used
half of a plastic Easter egg.
Fill it up with your favorite Easter
candy and set it out for your guests.
