How to
Make an Egg Carton Christmas Tree
| Step 1 |
Cut a 5 cup
section of the egg carton making
sure it is all in a row. Next cut a 4 cup section in a row. Then a 3
cup, 2 cup and finaly a 1 cup section of the egg carton.
|
| Step 2 |
Paint the egg
carton sections green and let it dry.
|
| Step 3 |
As the paint is
drying you can assemble a star
from the craft sticks. Take three small craft sticks and glue together
to form a 6 point star. Let the glue dry before decorating.
|
| Step 4 |
Once the paint
is dry on the egg cartons begin
to glue these together. Place the 5 cup section on the botton and glue
the 4 cup section on top centering it in the middle.
|
| Step 5 |
Repeat the above
step for the remaining egg
carton sections placing the 3 cup on top of the 4 cup, the 2 cup on top
of the 3 cup and the 1 cup on the very top.
Tip: You made need
to trim the bottoms of the cup sections so that it sets on top of the
other fairly flat. You can use hot glue or sticky glue but both may
require you to hold in place for awhile as the glue dries.
|
| Step 6 |
Take cotton
balls and stuff in between the open areas of your tree.
|
| Step 7 |
Lay your tree
flat on the table and spread
white glue all around the tree and sprinkle fake snow on top of the
glue. Don't worry about any glue spots showing as this will dry clear.
Leave the Xmas tree laying flat until the glue has dried so that the
fake snow sticks and does not fall off.
Tip: You can also use a
spray adhesive as this is less messy. If you use white glue, use your
fingers or a craft stick to spread around the tree.
|
| Step 8 |
Decorate your
craft stick star with paint or glitter glue. Set aside to dry.
|
| Step 9 |
As your star is
drying, take some colored
ribbon or yarn and glue onto the tree to form garland. Glue one end of
the yarn to the side of the tree and then droop across to the other
side and glue in place.
|
| Step 10 |
The last step is
placing your star on the tree.
Cut a small slit on the top of the tree and thread one end of the star
through the slit. Add a bit of glue on the star to help hold it in
place.
Tip: As an alternative to cutting a slit simply use hot
glue to place the star on the tree. Hold in place until the glue has
cooled down and the star is secure.
|
As you can see from the picture this egg carton Christmas
tree doesn't even look like egg cartons once you are done. If you want
to make an even bigger tree, use more egg cartons and cut longer
sections. If your tree gets too tall it may not stand on it's own so
either brace it with something or create 2 layers of the bottom rows
(back to back) to make it wider at the bottom.
