was a tradition for many growing up and have now passed this tradition
on to their kids.

How to
Make a Handprint Turkey
|
|
| Step 1 |
Take
a piece of brown construction paper and place your hand on the paper
with your fingers spread out.
|
| Step 2 |
Now
trace your hand with a pencil or marker making sure it’s dark
enough to see for cutting. Have mom and dad help you trace it
if it’s
too hard to hold your hand still while you trace.
|
| Step 3 |
Cut
out the handprint along the traced lines. Make sure your mom,
dad
or grandparents are watching while you do the cutting or have them cut
it out for you.
|
| Step 4 |
Now
it’s time to start turning your cutout hand into a turkey.
The
thumb portion of the cutout will be the turkey’s head. With a
black
marker, make a thick dot a little above the center tip of the
thumbnail for the eye or glue on a wiggle eye. |
| Step 5 |
Let's
put the wattle on the turkey now. With the red construction
paper, cut an oblong shape (make it a bit wiggly like the turkey's
wattle). Now glue this just under the chin (below the
turkey's
mouth that you drew). |
| Step 6 |
Time
to put some feathers on your turkey. You can just color each
finger a different color to make the feathers or you can cut out some
colored construction paper and glue a different color on each
finger. |
| Our
handprint turkey pictured above was completed by my grandson (at the time
only 2 1/2 years old). Although we helped with the cutting and tracing,
he put the whole thing together himself. So you see this is a great
little kids Thanksgiving craft idea. You can add some real
feathers to this fun turkey craft to make it extra special for
Thanksgiving.
In addition to this handprint turkey craft, try this other hand turkey
craft using hand painting. Kids love to get their hands messy with
paint.
