Valentine Love Bug Craft

Heart Shaped Animals

This Valentine love bug craft is just one of many heart shaped animals you can make for this special day. This one is so adorable and looks great sitting on the table to decorate for Valentine's day. With a simple paper bowl, some colored paper (cut into shapes of hearts) and some accessories, you can have this love bug done in no time.

Supplies

Paper Bowl

How to Make a Love Bug Craft

Step 1

With the bottom of the bowl facing up, paint it with the color of your choice. We used pink for our love bug.

Step 2

While the paint is drying, cut out two large hearts with the colored card stock. This will be the wings. Cut out a large heart the same color as the bowl for the bug's head.

Tip: Construction paper will work also but card stock will stand up a bit better.

Step 3

Cut out 6 small hearts for the love bug's feet. Cut out another small heart for the nose. Cut out 3 slightly larger hearts for the antennnas and the tongue.

Step 4

If you want to decorate the wings place heart shaped stickers or other fun Valentine stickers before gluing to the bowl. Now glue the wings on either side of the bowl with the decorated side facing up.

Step 5

Glue on wiggle eyes and the heart nose on the heart shaped head making sure the point of the heart is facing up. Now glue on the tongue to the back of the heart at the bottom and slightly to one side. Glue the head onto the front of the bowl.

Step 6

Cut 3 black pipe cleaners in half. On the end of each of the 6 halves glue on one of the small hearts that you cut out in step 3. Glue the other end of the pipe cleaner to the bottom (rim) of the bowl creating 3 legs on each side.

Step 7

Take two pipe cleaners (color of your choice) and twist them part way down around your finger. On the end glue on the cut out hearts. Then glue each antenna to the back of the love bug's head.

You can alter this Valentine craft idea and use a paper plate instead of a bowl if you want. We selected a bowl to give this bug a fuller look.
