Paper
Snowman Craft for Kids

This paper snowman craft makes a great kids Christmas crafts project or
just as a fun winter activity. This guy is so cute and fat with all his
paper tear drop layers. Dress him (or her) up with a hat, scarf and even mittens.
This snowman is made completely of paper only
so is really inexpensive as well as a great winter decoration. You can
pick the colors you want and even use designer paper to give it a bit
more flare.
The skills required for this kids Christmas craft are cutting and
gluing. They may need some help with the gluing for some of the parts
as it can be a little difficult to get it stuck just right.
| As an alternative to using a paper cone as explained in the directions below
you can buy a cone shaped styrofoam piece instead. This makes attaching
the paper loops much easier as they would simply use a push pin to hold
in place. However, these can get a bit costly if you are doing this paper snowman craft as
a school project.

Poster Board
White Paper

How to
Make a Paper Snowman Craft
| Step 1 |
Take the poster
board and cut it in half. Then cut one half in half again for a smaller
snowman. If you want a bigger snowman use the full half.
|
| Step 2 |
Cut out a half
circle on your piece of poster board. Roll this into a cone shape and
tape and glue it in place.
Tip: Make sure the cone will stand up on it's own. If it doesn't you
will have to trim off some on the bottom to even it out.
|
| Step 3 |
Cut several
strips of white paper measuring 4 inches to 5 inches long by 1 inch
wide. If you are making a bigger snowman you may want to make these
strips longer.
|
| Step 4 |
Bring both ends
of the paper strips together and glue in place to form a tear drop. Do
not fold one end over the other as this will create a circle and not a
tear drop.
|
| Step 5 |
Starting from
the bottom, glue on the tear drop strips to the paper cone. Press and
hold each one to ensure they stick.
|
| Step 6 |
Once you have
the bottom completely covered, repeat the above step but glue these one
above the first row and slightly off center of the other strips. Keep
doing this until you have reached the top of the paper cone. |
| Step 7 |
Now place the
styrofoam ball on top of the paper cone. You may need to use some hot
glue to hold this in place.
|
| Step 8 |
Using your
colored paper, cut a triangle large enough to fit around the styrofoam
ball. This will be the snowman's hat. Glue one edge of the triangle
around the head. Then pinch and glue the other two edges together. This
will form a peak. Glue a pom pom onto this peak.
|
| Step 9 |
Fold the top
part of the hat down and glue to the bottom part of the hat. This gives
it that bent look. You can always just leave your hat standing straight
up as an option.
|
| Step 10 |
Cut two strips
of colored paper an inch wide and 6 inches long. Create a tear drop
with these. Now cut another color of paper into two strips about 3
inches long and 1 inch wide. Make these a tear drop as well. Glue the
small tear drop to the back of a long tear drop. This will form the
snowman's arm and mittens. Glue these to both sides of the snowman. |
| Step 11 |
Glue on some
wiggle eyes and a small piece of orange pipe cleaner for the nose. You
can also use buttons for these parts of the snowman.
|
| Step 12 |
Finish off your
paper snowman craft by accessorizing. We added a paper scarf and cut
fringes and then glued it around the neck.
We also added some paper buttons folded into a small rectangle and then
glued these to the front of our paper snowman craft. |
We made our snowman all color coordinated with red designer paper but
you can mix and match your colors and designs. Just use what you have
on hand or try to find the perfect paper for this kids Christmas craft
idea.
