Santa
Advent Calendar Craft for Kids
Kids
Christmas Crafts
 |
This Santa advent calendar craft for kids is an adorable Santa with a paper
chain beard (24 chains to be exact). The kids can decorate Santa's face
(minus the beard) using the template provided or just draw out their
own Santa face. Then for this kids Christmas crafts idea, they would
add on the paper chains to create the beard.
This advent calendar can be as simple as needed for younger kids. They
can just color in the template and add the chains. For older kids they
can glue on some cotton balls, wiggle eyes and some glitter to add lots
of Christmas shine to Santa's face. |
 Supplies
Tan or Peach Card Stock Crayons or Markers
White Paper
Glue
Scissors
Ruler
Optional: Pink and Red Pom Poms
Optional: Santa Face Template
How to
Make a Santa Advent Calendar
| Step 1 |
Print off the
Santa face template here. You can also just draw out your own Santa
just make sure to leave off the beard.
|
| Step 2 |
Transfer the
template to tan or peach card stock. You can use construction paper but
card stock is sturdier and will hang better.
|
| Step 3 |
Decorate your
Santa with crayons, markers, glitter glue, cotton balls and pom poms.
We used two large pink pom poms for his cheeks, 1 smaller red pom pom
for his nose and cotton balls for his mustache and hat. Then we used a
red marker and sprinkled on some glitter glue on the main part of the
hat.
|
| Step 4 |
Cut 24 strips at
6 inches long and 1 inch wide.
|
| Step 5 |
For the first
row of Santa's beard, take 8 strips and glue the two ends together so
that there is a small tab. You will use this tab to glue the first row
to the back of Santa's head.
Tip: Don't loop this first row as there will be no flat edge to glue to
the back. So these look a bit like a tear drop. Just press slightly on
the rounded edge while holding the tab to make these more of a circle
shape.
Don't glue this to Santa just yet. We will add the other rows first.
|
| Step 6 |
Lay the 8 loops
out in front of you creating 8 columns in a horizontal line. Using just
the middle six loops you will add a loop to these.
Simply thread through a strip in the loop. Then glue both ends together
to create a circle (with one end overlapping the other).
Tip: Press and hold the two ends together for a count of 10 or until
the glue starts to set up. |
| Step 7 |
Now let's create
the next 2 rows of Santa's beard. Using the middle 4 columns add
another set of strips creating 4 more loops. Repeat this for the next
row of the beard. |
| Step 8 |
For the last
row, use the middle two strips and add two loops. Now you have 24 loops
in total on the 8 columns. Glue these 8 columns to the Santa face with
the shortest columns on the outside and the longest columns in the
middle.
|
Just glue on a looped ribbon on the back to hang this Santa advent calendar
to the wall. Then starting on December 1st, remove one loop. Repeat
removing a loop each day until December 24th (Christmas Eve) where you
will remove the last loop.
In addition to this Santa Advent calendar craft idea, try this
Christmas tree advent calendar.
