Sensory Crafts for Kids|
|
Listen and learn with these sound sensory crafts for kids. We
hear different sounds everyday. Some sounds are soothing and
nice to listen to and others are loud and not so nice.
Although
these kids craft ideas focus primarily on the sense
of sound, your kids will really be learning all about the five senses.
When we use one of our senses many of the other senses are also
engaged. For instance, when you read a book your kids are using
their sense of sight and touch.
| So even though these kids crafts focus on sound they will also help
children learn and recognize all the five senses.

they are in a band.

Hole Punch
Bells
Pony Beads
String, Yarn or Ribbon
Crayons, Markers or Paint
Glue
Scissors
How to Make a Tamborine
 |
Decorate
the outside (bottom) of both paper plates. You can make these
a themed tamborine like for making some noise for the New Year, 4th of
July or any occasion.
|
 |
Place
several pony beads in the center of one of the plates.
|
 |
Cover
the outer rim of one of the plates with glue. Place the other
plate on top of the glue (with the decorated side facing out).
Let the glue dry.
|
 |
Punch several holes around the plate
leaving the top without holes. This is where you will hold your
tamborine.
|
 |
Using string and bells, tie several through
the punched holes. You can also tie some ribbon without bells
to give it a bit of flair.
|
Simply grab your tamborine and shake it or tap it and you will hear the
bells and the pony beads.

Lollipop
Drum
So what's a lollipop drum you ask? A lollipop drum is a
handhelp drum (sort of shaped like a lollipop) that you spin in your
hand to make noise.
Supplies
Empty Ribbon Roll
BBQ Skewer
Construction Paper
String
2 Wooden Beads
Crayons, Markers or Glitter Glue
Scissors
Hot Glue
Stick Glue or Elmers Glue
How to Make a Lollipop Drum
 |
Cut
out two circles with the construction paper the same size as the ribbon
spool and glue to both sides.
|
 |
Decorate
with the designs of your choice.
|
 |
Take
the BBQ skewer and using the pointed end, poke through the bottom
inside portion of the spool. Push it all the way to the top
and let the tip stick part way through the top (but not all the way
through).
Tip: If the skewer pokes all the way through, you can simply
place a bit of hot glue to help hold it in place.
|
 |
Using a sharp object, poke a hole on both
sides of the ribbon spool.
|
 |
Thread a wooden bead through some string.
Take both ends of the string and thread this through the hole
on the side. Tie it off making the knot bigger than the hole.
Repeat this for the other side.
Tip: You can also hot glue the sting in place to help hold it.
|
To hear the noise of this sound sensory craft, just place the stick
between both of your hands and spin the drum by moving your hands back
and forth.
