Triangle
Shape Activities #4
Triangle Sponge Painting
This was my
grandson's favorite activity as it involes getting paint on his hands.
Setup for the
Triangle Sizes and Color by Number Activity
 |
Cut up several sponges into triangle
shapes. These can be different sizes or all the same size.
|
 |
Using several small paper plates, pour a
dab of paint on each.
|
 |
Have your kids dip the sponge in one of the
colors and blot it on
their paper. Have them pick a different color and blot it on their
paper and overlap the first triangle.
|
 |
Ask your toddler if they see more than the
two colors they used and more than two triangles.
Hint:
If they used two colors that if mixed together make another
color,
they will see a new color and tiny triangle where they overlapped the
colors. For instance; yellow and blue make green, red and
blue make
purple, etc.
|
 |
Have them make as many triangles with as
many colors as they want. They can overlap some and leave
some all by themselves.
|
Kids love painting and sponge painting is a great way to stamp on the
design and mix colors to see what happens.

Triangle Shapes
Game
Point the Way
This one takes a bit of time to set up so you may want to do this while
the kids are busy with their shapes activities.
Setup for
Point the Way
 |
You can use masking tape or simply cut out
different shapes to set on the floor.
|
 |
The idea of this game is to place triangles
to where the "point" leads the kids to what you want them to find.
|
 |
You
can set this up like a sort of maze where you have several triangles
pointing a way only to come to a deadend with a circle, oval, square or
rectangle shape that stops them from continuing to follow the point.
|
 |
At
the end of the "pointing the way" have several objects laid out on a
table. Ask the kids to find the triangle shaped objects.
Tip: Triangle shaped household objects are harder to come by
than other shapes, so you may have to make some triangle shaped items.
|
 |
You
can continue this game by asking them to find all the circle shaped
items, etc.
|
|
|
If you do this game for a birthday party, you can have each child go
one at a time and when they reach the table and pick out the triangle
shaped item, then they would get to pick a prize out of the prize bag.
Or you can even have several different "start" positions and the first
one to the table is the winner.
Just play around with this game and modify the rules if you want to help kids learn all about the triangle shape.
