Circle Shapes
Crafts for Kids
|
|
Kids
shapes crafts are a great way to keep your little ones occupied
and learning their shapes. These toddler crafts are fairly
easy
and inexpensive so you can do them more than once or for a whole
classroom.
Each
craft will list the needed craft supplies, step by step instructions
and a picture of the finished craft. With some simple changes
to
the instructions and your own creativity, these shapes crafts also
become a way for learning colors, counting and more.

craft pages on this site. Use the links below to see these
fun
crafts that take on the circle shape.

Circle Shapes Crafts #1
Cardboard
Roll Binoculars
This shapes craft for toddlers allows the kids to be creative when they
decorate their binoculars. Adults will need to do some of the steps to
complete this kids craft project.
Supplies
2 Toilet Paper Cardboard Rolls
Crayons, markers or paint
Scissors
1 Pipe Cleaner
String or Ribbon
How to Make
the Circle Binoculars Shapes Craft
 |
Have
your kids decorate the cardboard rolls in whatever colors and designs
they want. Have them name the colors as they decorate.
Tip: If you used paint, let this dry completely before moving
on to the next step.
|
 |
This
step is for an adult to do. Poke a hole in the side of each
cardboard roll about 1" from the top.
|
 |
Cut
a pipe cleaner in half and thread this through the hole in one
cardboard roll and then through the other cardboard roll.
Twist pipe cleaners in order to hold the two rolls together.
Tip: Be sure to press down on the pipe cleaners so no sharp
edges are sticking up.
|
 |
Now
bend the pipe cleaner into the shape of the nose piece of binoculars.
|
 |
Optional:
Last
step is to punch holes on the outside of each cardboard roll and tie
some string or ribbon through it so the kids can hang them from their
neck.
|
Some fun options for this craft is to have your toddler decorate the
binoculars with several different sizes of circles with different
colors or cut out several different size circles with different colored
construction paper and have them glue to the binoculars. Have them name
the colors as the decorate their
binoculars. Ask them to point to the smallest circle and then
to the biggest circle to reinforce sizes as well.
Turn this shapes crafts into a fun sight sensory activity and/or the
Letter B sound activity. Have the children go outside (or do
this inside if it's too cold) and ask them to find things through their
binoculars that start with the Letter B like bush, bird, bicycle,
building, etc. Then go ahead and have them see what else they
can find by looking through their binoculars.

Circle Shapes Crafts #2
Cardboard Creepy, Crawly Caterpillar
This fun toddlers craft is just too cute when it's all done.
The craft supplies are simple and inexpensive but this craft
will also need some adult assistance.
Supplies
2 Toilet Paper Cardboard Rolls
Crayons, markers or paint
Scissors
1 Pipe Cleaner
String or Ribbon
How to Make
the Circle Caterpillar Craft
 |
This
step may need adult help. Cut both cardboard rolls into four
equal pieces so you have a total of 8 circle shaped cardboard rolls.
|
 |
Have the kids paint each piece a different
color so that they will also be learning colors with this craft.
|
 |
Optional:
Cut several different sizes and colors of circles and have
your toddler glue these onto the differents cardboard pieces.
Ask them to say the color of each circle.
|
 |
Once
the paint is dry, have an adult poke a hole in each of the eight
pieces. Then thread through some string or ribbon in each hole to bring
all 8 pieces together.
Tie a knot at each end of the string so the pieces won't come off.
|
 |
Last
step (for adults) is to poke a hole on each side of the first cardboard
circle. Then cut a pipe cleaner in half and thread this
through each hole and then shape into an antennae.
|
Once this cute shapes craft is done, have your child count the number
of circles glued to the caterpillar. Then have them count how
many pieces make up the body of the caterpillar.
A fun variation to this craft, which will also focus on the child's
touch senses, is to unravel some cotton balls and then glue these (as
best as you can) to the top of the finished caterpillar. This
will simulate the soft fury feel of a caterpillars skin.
Help your toddler recognize the sound of the Letter C by having them
name their creepy, crawly caterpillar with some name that begins with
the letter C.
Then they can introduce their craft by saying "This is Cathy,
my creepy, crawly caterpillar". Ask them what other bugs or
animals start with the Letter C sound like cricket, cockroach, cat,
crocodile, etc.

Circle Shapes Crafts #3
A Delightful Dish of a
Dozen Donuts
For this toddlers craft, you can make as many or as few donuts as
you want. I just used this name for the craft to emphasize
the sound of the Letter D.
Supplies
Craft Dough
Paints
Paint Brushes
Circle Shapes (one big, one small) as cookie cutters
Glitter or Sprinkles (optional)
How to Make a
Dozen Donuts
 |
Preheat
oven to 300 degrees.
|
 |
This
step is for adults but the kids can help knead the dough.
Make
your craft dough using 2 1/2 cups flour, one cup salt and one warm
water. Knead the dough until all is moist and form into a ball.
If the dough is too flaky, add water. If it is too
sticky,
add flour.
|
 |
Roll the dough out onto a cookie sheet or
waxed paper.
|
 |
Using
the larger circle shaped object, have the kids press it down into the
dough to make the outer part of a donut. Now do the same on
the inside of the circle with the smaller circle object (this is the
donut hole).
|
 |
Place
the donuts on your cookie sheet and bake until outside feels hard
(about 1 to 1 1/2 hours). Take
out of the oven and let the donuts cool completely.
|
 |
Once
the donuts are cooled, have the kids paint (or frost them as I like to
say) the donuts with the color of their choice.
Tip: While the paint is still wet you can sprinkle some
glitter on to represent sprinkled donuts or use actual sprinkles.
|
There you have it! A delightful dish of a dozen donuts.
This shapes crafts idea does require patience while waiting
on the baking and cooling. So if you are doing this for a
large group of kids you may want to have the donuts ready ahead of
time and just let them do the painting.
What we did is I purchased a dozen plain donuts (the real ones you can
eat) and some ready made frosting. Then we put a bit of
frosting in different containers and had the kids stir in some food
coloring. Then we let them frost their donuts and added
sprinkles. And of course we did this after they ate dinner,
so this was their dessert. By the
time we were done with this kids activity, the craft dough was ready so
they could complete their circle shape craft.
To incorporate learning the Letter D, you can ask your child to name
other foods that start with this sound like danish, dill pickles,
deviled eggs, etc.
After you are done with these circle shapes crafts, be sure to check out the
circle shape activities for toddlers.
